Hot Take Tuesday: Every MLB team should have two DHs
It took us long enough to get a DH on the National League roster so I don't see two DHs happening anytime soon...but it really should happen. With this suggestion I am requesting that each team has a defensive specialist in addition to their pitcher. Most often this would end up being the catcher but that is not a requirement. Teams could strategize however they like. The league average BA for catchers this past season was .226 which is quite a bit below the league average of .242. It's no secret that offensive catchers are a dying breed in the MLB, but there are plenty of catchers that are still worth their weight defensively. This is causing teams to carry an offensive liability at the catcher position due to what the guy can bring defensively. Think about how many minor league guys there are, or have been, over the years that are elite defensive catchers, but they never make it in "the show" because they can't cut it offensively. I have to imagine this happe...
