Hot Take Tuesday: Every MLB team should have two DHs

Image
It took us long enough to get a DH on the National League roster so I don't see two DHs happening anytime soon...but it really should happen. With this suggestion I am requesting that each team has a defensive specialist in addition to their pitcher. Most often this would end up being the catcher but that is not a requirement. Teams could strategize however they like.   The league average BA for catchers this past season was .226 which is quite a bit below the league average of .242. It's no secret that offensive catchers are a dying breed in the MLB, but there are plenty of catchers that are still worth their weight defensively. This is causing teams to carry an offensive liability at the catcher position due to what the guy can bring defensively.  Think about how many minor league guys there are, or have been, over the years that are elite defensive catchers, but they never make it in "the show" because they can't cut it offensively. I have to imagine this happe...

Who should the Colts hire next?

Image
With Frank Reich officially out in Indianapolis here is my list of five coaches the Colts should consider giving a chance.  1. Urban Meyer  I can't quite put my finger on it or in it, but hiring Urban Meyer feels like it would kick this Colts team in the ass. Urban wasn't given a fair shake in his first go-around in the NFL. He is familiar with the division having led the Jags for nearly a full season last year. Plus Indianapolis is far enough from Columbus, Ohio so there shouldn't be any postgame controversies. It's not like controversy follows this guy or anything.  2. Gregg Williams  Three G's in a first name has never been pulled off quite as well as Gregg Williams pulls it off, and if that isn't a strong enough resume then I don't know what is. Reich was a good coach, but he had is limitations. What the Colts need is a guy who will stop at nothing to win games, no matter the cost! 3. Andrew Luck  Best thing about having Andrew Luck as your coach is, h...

Three Things I know, I know: Monday November 7th

Image
1.  The Guardians need to add 1B that can hit LHP and or a SP I'm not breaking any news here. The Guardians had an incredibly exciting season and seem to be way ahead of schedule as far as the window of a World Series opportunity is concerned, but they need to make moves this off-season.  I, as well as many Guardians fans think the three biggest positions of need are a first baseman that can hit left handed pitching, a depth starting pitcher, and a catcher. Personally, I am in the camp that believes in Austin Hedges as a glue guy. Leadership with a young club is important, and he brings that. No matter what happens with the catcher position, I think it is clear that Bo Naylor will get some time with the Guardians to see what we have in him. Will he split time with Hedges, or will they bring in a new catcher for him to share the spot with...we'll have to wait and see.  Besides the catcher position first base is the next biggest question mark. Josh Naylor has been serviceab...

Top 10 Cavs Jerseys

Image
 10. These jerseys remind me a lot of the 2016 championship black sleeved jerseys. They are simple and reminiscent of jerseys from the past. Plus the start to the season has been exciting, and jerseys always look better when you win in them.  9. Speaking of the 2016 championship jerseys...alright I'll admit that visually these ones aren't as great as many of the others on the list...but these bring back the vivid memory of one of the greatest moments in Cleveland sports history. I know the sleeved look isn't the best, but these jerseys will always hold a special place in my heart.  8. Bright colors always pop so the all yellow definitely turns some heads. There really aren't many "primary yellow" jerseys in professional sports so I like how these ones stand out.  7.  First of all...just the thought of an "earned" jersey is cool. Only giving jerseys to the teams that make the playoffs is kind of a good idea to discourage tanking. Like if you finish in...

I love the Cavs new "City Edition" jerseys

Image
It looks like the Cavs have New "City Edition" jerseys and I love them! I mean we have had some really bad "City Edition" jerseys in the past...                                                                ...but I actually think the new 2022 City Edition jerseys look really cool. Powder blue, or baby blue, or light blue...any version of a pale blue always plays with jerseys, and I think the trim gives just enough of an accent that really makes the jersey pop. I have always been a fan of simple jerseys as well. Sometimes a jersey will be too busy and it will end up looking tacky, but ...

Hand Up Wednesday: Ye (the artist formerly known as Kanye West)

Image
I have been debating whether or not to post this, because I really don't want to give Ye more attention than he is already receiving, but I think it is important for me to use this as a reflection. As I said last week "Hand Up Wednesday" is recognizing where I have been wrong, and I think I spent way too much time defending Kanye in the past, and I want to accept the fact that he is no longer defensible.  For most of my life I considered myself a fan of Kanye West. In fact for a while I would consider myself almost a "stan" of his. I still think My Beautiful Dark and Twisted Fantasy is one of the greatest albums of all time, and I think Kanye's discography from College Dropout  to The Life of Pablo is arguably the greatest seven album stretch for any music artist ever. But it has reached a point where he has become indefensible, and I am no longer a fan.  I know there are many people out there who are frustrated because they jumped off the Kanye train years ...

Hot Take Tuesday: Donovan Mitchell is the third best player to ever play for the Cavs

Image
Another new segment...this one is pretty self explanatory...but every Tuesday I will put our a blog with a "hot take" I have.  Today's:  Donovan Mitchell is the third best player to ever play for the Cavs. I'm pretty intentional with my wording on this statement. I am not suggesting he is the third best Cavalier, perhaps he could become that, but in order to be on a short list of Cleveland Cavaliers you need to put together a "career" with the team. Time will tell if he makes it on that short list, but for now, I don't think it is an overstatement to suggest that he is one of the three most talented players to ever play for this team.  There are some 90's guys, and earlier, that I am not going to pretend to know a lot about. But I have always had the opinion that the most talented brand of the game is always what is happening currently. Much like everything else in life, sports progress. The game gets better and more competitive as athletes, training...
