Soup-er Bowl Sundays
I know that doesn't sound like a particularly revolutionary idea, but this is a layered activity. We will not only be enjoying the soup as our weekly Sunday dinner, we will also be anonymously ranking those soups throughout the year, and developing a running list. Whichever soup is our favorite, will be receiving a score of seventeen, second best will score a sixteen, third best fifteen, and so on. At the end of the regular season we will combine the individual scores, and the four highest ranked soups will be awarded the opportunity to compete in the playoffs. Fourth place soup will be remade and ranked over Wild Card Weekend, third place soup over Divisional Round, second place over Championship Sunday, and then the highest score will be enjoyed over the Super Bowl.
I also find it important to note that currently we have a list of about fifteen soups, with a few others in strong consideration. We are not scheduling our soups in advance, rather we are treating it as "flex" basis week to week. Why did we decide to go this route? Well, there are a lot of factors that go into which soup is appropriate each week, the most obvious factor being the weather. For example, you know chili weather when you feel it, so a soup like that can't be planned in advance, it has to be the perfect weather. There are many other soups that feel weather dependent, so we want to keep the schedule flexible in order to make necessary changes.
Week one, we're keeping it classic...homemade chicken noodle. I feel like this will give us a good base. It will make the ranking system a little more clear. Week two we will evaluate "was this soup better than last week" if so I'll put it on the top of my board, if not, it drops. And I'll basically use that same approach week to week. And with that approach it is important to have a solid starting point, and I believe that to be chicken noodle.
While my ranking will remain anonymous, I will be running a brief blog review of each soup to keep a record of my experience.
Feel free to follow along, and if you want to do a similar thing with you significant other, I encourage you to do so. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
